Day11 Wednesday. Tie washer used on the top and bottom plates, 65mm x 3 mm , threaded rod 12mm at max 1.800mt centers and either side of all openings
Under tie 1/12 x 4 fixed to under side joist full length of home, bottom plate tied down, with 12mm bolts under windows, all other areas full length rods from top to bottom

Labour used is 2 Toy carpenters and 2 laboures, their wifes, Toy carpenters are not real carpenters yet, still learning to be the real ones, but this crew will have plenty experience with timber when finished, and the western way of good construction methods.

Top and bottom of sheet is nailed off at 50mm centres, vertical nailed at 150mm, tie rods at either end of bracing sheets, from under batten to top plate

Bracing wall with tie rods, underbatten 1 1/2 x 4 runs under the floor joist, tie rod are bolted through the underbatten, with 65 mm washers, large washers spread the load. Between the joist and under batten a nogging is used so the tie rod won't bend the underbatten up, at later stage as the timber shrinks you and tighten up the tie rods.

At the top of plywood 3 nogging are used to extend the ply sheet, as only 8ft sheets are available here, so a 1 ft extension is nailed on top of the main sheet.

Photo: joist undertie batten, used to tie joist together, loadsharing batten 1 1/2 x 4 screwed fixed to joist, helps stop deflection of single joists when live load is applied, spreads the load across several joist, gives a more solid feel, less movement.
Joist spacing is 400mm and a 100kg load applied to centre of joist at midway of 2800mm span, the maximum deflection area, is 4mm, this is reduced to 2mm with the joist undertie, acceptable design if you want to use ceramic tiles, if applied tiles with a 2 pak glue the deflection will be less, the tiles give a stronger laminated floor, I will be sanding the ply floor

Day 17 Thursday: Bit of rain is no problem, as long as the timber is wet evenly.
Today erect Roof trusses and brace, install roof battens at 600mm centers, 1 1/2 x 3 sized on face to make same thickness, fixed with 2 x 100mm nails, at 20 deg angle to give maxium grip into top cord of trusses, gives a stronger pull out force if nails are driven in at an angle, opposed to each other.

Install first roof batten from this level
Installing first roof batten with nails, at later stage steel brackets will tie all the truss ends to the facia, at this stage you can see the steel brackets holding the truss to the wall frame with 2 x 14 g screws x65mm
