My wife tells me that the pigs heads are used more at the Chinese temples. Chinese buddhists offer a pigs head if they are praying for good luck. In my wife's village (just outside Nongsoong) there is a spirit house built in memory of a man called Kome who the locals believed had the power to give good luck. When my niece applied for a visa to come to England recently, her mother went to this spirit house and gave a pigs head.
