Ceremonies

Can someone explain the Buddhist ceremony for someone that has passed away? My wife's grandmother just passed away and my wife's
english is not good enough to explain what is to take place. Any help
would be a blessing right now. She is trying but very upset and I really
don't have a clue how to handle this.

this will not be of much help but I attended My father in law funeral. I just followed my wifes lead and all went fine.

Seems to me basically to be a big party. I thought how cruel as my wifes family did not have a free moment for reflection. Once they had the funeral cremation we then had time but all were too tired. In the long run the family works through their grief. Better than everyone standing around a crying like heck.

Thanks BP, it seems you are correct in that it is just a party. After the
cremation we will just have to work through it. Quite the opposite of how
it is done back in the states.

From what my wife told me is when someone dies there soul doen't leave for 3 days. In that time the departed will not fully understand what has happend to them so that is one reason you will see the people at the funeral trying to be happy as not to cause the dead persons soul any distress and they can leave to go to there next life happy.
