To write coherent and unified paragraphs one does not break it up into individual sentences. As we were taught in public school in Canada, try to avoid paragraphs that contain less than 4 sentences. Too short a paragraph suggests that you have not developed your topic sentence adequately. Most gentlemen might not agree with the sentiments of the above; however, my English grammar teacher had a keen eye for proper paragraph development and would deal harshly with anyone who disobeyed proper grammatical rules.

You are, of course, technically, correct Tilokarat. Sadly, English language teachers are often far to concerned about the technicalities of the language rather than the readability.

p.s. I am attempting to be humorous here - I do enjoy the substance of your posts.... :D

And a Happy Christmas and New Year to you and all the gang at Udonmap too.

It is an interesting forum.

It would be better to be in Udon at this time listening to Christmas carols as I was last year.

But, it is a nice -2 degrees with a wind chill factor of -10 and there is blac-coloured snow on the ground (thanks to the salt and sand), so who is too complain (at least there isn't a lot of yellow snow around).

Furthermore, Thailand got through the election with a democratic result.

Let's hope there are not any (too many) negative repercussions.

Man City looks good right about now.

Take care you guys and enjoy the holiday spirit.

I beg to differ (of course) :D

I had an Australian English teacher, who obviously had a far superior knowledge of correct grammar to that of any Canadian English teacher. :D

And I was taught that a paragraph should contain only one subject - new subject, new paragraph. Furthermore, surely your Canadian "English" teacher was not suggesting that it takes at least 4 sentences to cover a subject.

Merry Christmas to all English teachers, their wretched students, and the poor unhappy readers of their musings

WTF is going on with this forum? An earlier thread drifted off to correcting ray23's spelling now this has gone to English grammer.

Why doesn't someone start "My English is Perfect - Test Me" thread. Common Jack, go for it. I wouldn't dare!

If you care to review the earlier posts on this thread, Mr Dero, you will see that it was not I that started the drift.

And you are correct - it would be very courageous of you to start a thread on "good spelling and/or grammar" :D

Enjoy your Christmas day

Yes I know my limitations and suggesting that others realise theirs as well. You might not have started it but was in the thick of the action on both occasions.

Back to my bacon sandwich - "Xmas Lunch"! Enjoy yours at Nongs or wherever. =P~

Let's face it, my British Cousins wouldn't even be in the competition of "My English is Perfect"... they can't even spell color, honor or generalize along with several other "English" words. :?

Merry Christmas to ALL :D

I reckon your bacon sanger was probably more tasty than the turkey, ham and other bits I got at Nongs. But I did enjoy the beer Lao :guiness:

Still, the trip wasn't totally wasted - picked up a couple of nice sirloins from French-Thai, and some fresh bread sticks at Tesco.

That doesn't sound to me like the best foundation for a marriage ... Hmmm..

On the other hand, my ex and I shared a lot in common (besides love for a certain stone) and still it didn't work out. [-X #-o

I think that old having things in common lark is overrated. I had plenty in common with my ex-wife and with the subsequent neurotic overweight undersexed self-obsessed puddle dwellers that followed her but they drove me mad and I followed the advice of a friend and booked a flight to Disneyland, I mean Thailand (Disneyland for big people).

What have I in common with my Thai g/f? Absolutely sod all! She plays Thai/Isaan music; I play The Eagles, U2, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Cliff Richard. She watches Thai soaps, news and movies; I change to Supersport to watch football or the English movie channel. I like pool but she doesn’t as she can only just hold the ehhh, stick but couldn’t be bothered! I like a few beers; she drinks orange juice and hates alcohol. However we agree on everything else... Ah yes a marriage made in heaven.

Happy Christmas and a very happy new year to you all. Nollaig shona agus Athbhlian faoi mhaise. (As Gaelige.)
