Another good story about Udon Thani

Post by Ricohoc » December 30, 2007, 12:24 pm

Since arriving a week ago, I have been spending a lot of time taking the buses. Twice during my stay, I purposely overpaid for my ride (gave them two 10 baht coins each time).

In both occurences, the driver (two different one) stopped me, returned the overpayment and gave me my change.

Ricohoc or
"Old Money bags".
This is Naam Jai "generosity" speaking
Can't you understand that many Thais earn 3,4,5000 per month and ten baht is important to them.
The fare is eight baht throughout the city so I am told.
This songthaew price is set by the authorities
Would you offer twice the unregulated plane fare too?
Look after the baht and those "baht hat" as we say in Yorkshire, will be able to look after themselves.
Do you really want one price for foreigners and another for Thais?
Decadence is not to be encouraged here.

Naam Jai, I was praising honesty, not bashing anyone or anything.

What is your point?

Well, the more folks "give up" the less chance I have of ever understanding.

when i take baht bus by myself, usually give the 10 baht, head nod and 'krup', no change please. there overhead, fuel, has more than doubled in past 3 years and fares up only about 30 %. besides being a pain in the ass, when we are always in a hurry, they do a pretty good job.

only one negative story, the other day, me and ree used their services, ree paid with 20 baht and he slowly drove away with the change. pissed her off, welcome to the life of a farang     blows her mind when she sees it in action. rare, but always ugly. 8)

I see nothing wrong with giving them a tip. And that is what you are doing. Give them what you want and smile, say 'Krup' and a wave of the hand, thumbs up, a nod or whatever. That makes you feel good and them too.

Any problems with that? Geeze.
