Home Cable in Udon - good or bad?

Post by MAD » December 21, 2007, 8:56 am

Just wondering what you guys think of Home Cable TV in Udon.

do they cater to Farangs too?

are we missing some really needed channels?

what other services do they have? DVR, Internet, Interactive media?

time for changes? or stuck with the old?

I think they are good if you speak thai, (my wife likes them), not good if you are looking for english programming. The service was prompt to install and add 2nd drop upstairs. Cost is cheap, 900 baht install plus 3 months service, 350 baht per month after.

I can only see three reasons to use them:

1) Fox News addict and must see
2) Don't want to pay high cost for UBC and better then nothing
3) Thai wife insists

I fall into category one and watch UBC for almost all programming except to switch over to cable to watch Fox News. My wife switches to cable any chance she gets.

Both UBC and cable have the BBC but only cable has ABC which does have some good programming and may be a fourth reason for you Aussies.

UBC is not the greatest thing in the world either but I believe it is the best alternative available now. There are other satellite options and admittedly I know little about them but from what I have read they are both expensive and fairly technical to operate, maintain and update.

My 2 bahts worth and I am not sure it is worth that!

We've have both UBC (True Move) and Home Cable. I have UBC set up in the living room, mainly for me. The bedrooms have home cable and is primarily viewed by the family. Been thinking about switching to UTV cable. Pretty much the same as Home Cable, but more cartoon channels for the kids.

I have to say that since arriving in Udon full time some two years ago I think cable TV has gone down hill.
We used to get Star Channel, Travel and Living, A1, Eurosport but now I reduced to watching the Thai soaps with the missus or alternatively coming on here and boring the ass off you lot

We also have both UBC and Home Cable and works fine for TW and I. She's happy watching her Nok Noi/morlam videos over and over on chan 16 and Chinese soap/thrillers/whatever during evenings on chan 2. Me, I watch Fox News sometimes when she lets me on Home and balance it with CNN and BBC on UBC. I'm actually pretty happy to be able to watch some NFL football, NBA basketball, boxing and baseball on UBC. Just wish I could watch some hockey games. Man, do I miss "Hockey Night in Canada"!

well there r many good channels if u speak eng u no need to worry bout it.
there r news channels such as 'fox chan' from usa, 'bbc inter' from uk, 'channel news asia' from sg, 'cctv eng programe', 'mcot' or thai govt. news channel eng programe at nite, and so much more.
for people who likes music like me.
there r few good music channels such as 'channel v' from msia. they play good inter music i like when they play uk music, 'vh1' inter old or new mvs. this is good choice. oh yeah they got movie channels too around 5 channels and its soundtrack.
im not doin marketin for em' but i am also a customer 'home cable' is great compared to other companies plus its cheap u pay only 350 baht monthly.

Live Streaming video of NFL, NCAAF, NCAAB, NBA etc etc. Will work if you have a high speed connection. I came across the site about 2 months ago and it works great.

WOW! Rob! Neat site. Wish I'd known about this earlier. Think of all the baseball and football games I've wanted to see but could not because I was not near a TV. Thanks! =D>

LU,

Dont know if your familiar with bit torrent. If you are there is an awesome NFL/NCAAF site called tenyardtorrents.com. You can download games in their entirety and watch on your PC. Alot of the games are even in HD format. Just about every NFL game is available for download. For NCAAF nearly all games available especially top 25. Games are usually available about 16-24 hrs after they are played.

Polehawk,

Im a big NHL fan too. Use Channelsurfing.net to feed your Hockey fix. Hockey night in Canada, NHL, World Junior Championships are all available. The site is very well laid out. All sporting events for the day are listed in chronological order - Simply click the link and you should be able to watch. Hopefully Udon provides a decent internet connection so the stream runs smooothly.

Rito,

Hope all is well. Sorry I havent written. Been very busy since returning last May. I am transferring in June to Kodiak, Alaska. I think I may be due for another Thailand vacation real soon. Looking at retiring in 2012, havent forgotten about you any your family. Thanks for hanging with me in Udon. Take care and I promise to start posting more.

Not very good in my case. It was acceptable while they had Star. Now there is only one reason we have it:

3) Thai wife insists
