Leaving the Car at the Airport

Post by NoLimitz » July 11, 2006, 8:16 pm

Has anyone ever left a car for a few days at Udon airport ? I am looking to fly down to BKK for a few days but live 100km from Udon so will need to leave the car somewhere.

What do you frequent flyers do ?

Thanks NoLimitz

I have done this for a few days and no problems apart from there is no shade in the car park and when you get back to your car it will be like an oven. Don't leave anything in it that could be affected by the heat. Also try to remember where you parked, it was a nightmare for me trying to locate the "oven" after a few days away.

The last post on this topic was 18 months ago.

Has anything changed? Does anyone have recent experience of leaving a car parked at the airport for a week or more?

Great if you live IN Udon, but not so clear cut if you live in Phon Phisai. ;)

The last time I left my car there was about a year ago, for 4 nights, no problems then. Though sorry, I have no recent experience either.

Left my van at the airport back in September for about a week and it was fine. Found a stray dog camped underneath it when we got back but he didn't cause any damage except maybe peed on the tires a few times, I suppose.

Go to the limo counter (near the arrivals gate). They provide covered parking, lock the front wheel of your vehicle to the ground with a chain, and have 24 hour security. 100 baht per day. There weren't any signs announcing this service, I found out from a friend who used to work there. I parked there for three days and came back in mid afternoon to a cool truck.
I have parked in the open parking area for 2 days at a crack......no problems, but the vehicle was sitting in the sun.

Well, how about motorbikes?

I assume these are more risky since they can be picked up, put into the back of a pickup truck and whisked away.

Is there any security in the motorbike parking area at night? Does the limousine desk offer secure parking for motorbikes too?

Does anybody have a contact number for this service, or can confirm that it is still running, the last post was a while ago.

I need to lave my car in Udon for 5 days whilst I go to BKK, travelling in from Nakhon Phanom.

Best Regards
Conrad

A friend of mine used to leave his pickup (late model Toyota) and never had a problem. But like they said in the song "times are a chang'n" so maybe cause for caution.

I have left my truck there for 3 weeks and have no problem. I did this twice last year - again no issues. Park as near to the entrance as you can as there are guards who walk the perimeter in the late evening between naps. Also park under or near one of the street lamps. Light deters most thieves. Yes your car will be out in the sun - so what - at least it will be - or should be - still there. And, as someone posted already, clean out the car and not display CD, MP3 players, etc. All should be OK.

I usually leave my car with the Airport car wash company, they park your car undercover and clean it for when you return (200 Baht). :D

Lee, is that 200 baht, regardless of the length of stay?

What is the longest you have left your car there?
