Premiership big guns prepare for Champions League

Post by Zidane » February 17, 2008, 11:15 am

Our four representatives in the Champions League had vastly different results yesterday as they prepared for this weeks big games............

FA Cup results.......

Chelsea 3 Huddersfield 1 (no real surprise there)

Manchester United 4 Arsenal 0 :D :D :D (Hard to believe that this was the same United who surrendered so meekly to Man City last week and without Ronaldo and Tevez as well ! Arsenal had no Sagna,Clichy,Flamini or Adebayor but were bloody awful. They will struggle against AC Milan and winning the Premiership on that form)

Liverpool 1 Barnsley 2 (need I say more !!! :D :D Looks like Everton could well replace them in the Champions League next season. That said, they will probably beat Inter Milan next week but very poor yesterday)

Hang on I'm just getting the sand out of my nostrils. There I was saying, "Jaysus I don't believe it, they can't beat Barnsley at home and now have to go to Oakwell for a re..........!"

Talk about sick as a parrot!

Yeah; well done with the result yesterday, IRISH ALAN, there's not alot I can say; so I won't!!!
You were right with the 3-1 scoreline, just Arsenal's lack of spirit constituting an own goal !!
AC Milan should be a sinch though

I think Rafa's days are numbered, especially if Liverpool go out of the Championship.

Shame really, his rotation of players has cost Liverpool in my opinion. Would prefer it if he stayed there and continued to f**k up.

After last nights results I reckon United & Chelsea should comfortably make it through to the last eight.
Liverpool have a two goal cushion but will have to be wary of conceding early in Milan.
Arsenal appear the most vulnerable of our teams.AC Milan is a daunting place to go but a 1-1 draw would suffice.

No doubt what the result of last night was....
AC Milan 0 Arsenal 2........great win for the Gooners ! To be honest, the way theyve being playing recently,I thought they'd lose last night. But,full credit to them,a fantastic result ! :D

Man Utd 1 Lyon 0.....Ronaldo's 30th goal in 30 games this season settled this one.Just wait till he starts playing in a more attacking role ! :D A bit of a nervy performance from United near the end and Lyon hit the post late on.

Lets hope Chelsea can do the biz tonite and Liverpool next week.Presume Liverpool are playing next week because the Milanese Police cannot cope with Champions League games on consecutive nights ??

Wouldnt it be great if we had 4 teams in the last 8 ! Surely we'd get a winner this time round !

And 747man just for you........Everton to win the UEFA Cup :D

I think it's a sort of tradition between both Milan clubs that they do not play on consecutive days (I suppose pitch condition plays a part.)

Liverpool then used their tradition to re-schedule their WHU game for tonight.

First United midfield player to score 30 goals in a season since George Best :D He has single handedly carried United through too many games this season though, OH for a proper replacement for Van Niselroy :(

Congrats to Arsenal I didn't see the match but, having read the match reports, it certainly was no fluke that they won.

Good luck Chelsea tonight (not that they should need too much luck) & Liverpool next week - the hard work at Anfield should see them through too.

Agree with you about Van Nistlerooy,Bob.
Saha has been a disappointment and with his injuries you are lucky if he plays for a third of the season.
Its something Sir Alex will have to address in the close season.Saha will probably leave, hopefully to one of our closest rivals ! :D
I quite like the lad from Liverpool,Torres, but little chance of getting him now.
The problem with relying on Ronaldo so much is if what happens if he picks up a long term injury.
That would give the advantage for the Champions League and the Premiership to the Gooners and Chelski.
That cant be contemplated....its not gonna happen is it !
I think Van Nistlerooy found out, like Beckham and Stam before him,you cross Sir Alex at your peril

Sorry 747, my mistake.... :D
Good luck to Everton, Tottenham, Bolton (although a run in the Premiership would probably be better for them :D ) & Rangers....

Zidane, agree about Torres. Drogba wants out of Chelsea apparently but for all his class I'm not sure he would 'fit' with Sir Alex. Benzema of Lyon is apparently favourite, bit of a Mark Hughes look about him but doesn't quite put himself about as much as Sparky... :D

Champions League last night.....Inter Milan 0 Liverpool 1 (Torres 64 min)

Congrats to Liverpool. So we've got 4 english teams in the last 8....should make for a very interesting draw,Arsenal v United maybe !
