Radio Revelation
I thought some of you (particularly the Brits) may be interested in something I have only just discovered today. - That you can actually listen to live BBC Radio live through the Internet.
By logging into: www.bbc.co.uk/radio
And opening BBC Radio Player. Select a radio station, and Listen Live, and away you go. You can select and listen to any of the English or World Service radio stations and listen to live programmes or previous programmes.
The only thing is, on an ordinary telephone connection it is slow to load up and also slows everything else down, INCLUDING reading the latest forum postings.
I have just been listening to Radio 2's saturday morning programme "Sounds of the Sixties" hits of 1968, with Brian Matthews. In fact I have just gone back and am listening to the programme again, as i have found the playlist and can see what records will be played.
For those wanting more culture Radio 4 would be ideal!
The weather forecast for the UK this morning was a frosty start and then dry and sunny later.

Sorry Arjay, I realise the reminscings of an old man are not everyones cup of tea. I have already apologised on the WW11 forum.

I had to read your post 3 times, and I am still unsure
Have you read the quoted bit as meaning that long posts are slowing things down for him? I am sure that was not what Arjay meant.
And even though this is a cross post, yes do pass on your reminiscences. I was involved in a somewhat later and much smaller conflict, so its good to see how your views and memories compare.
Your thread awaits you
John

I was totally lost there for a while as to what you both meant, but I think I have caught on again now.
I was simply saying that playing the radio through my PC was slowing it (my PC) down, and thus it was taking me longer to download webpages or read the Forum postings.
I have now edited my original post and changed the word "like" to read "including".
Are you not interested in the actual point of the original posting? It was something I didn't know about!!

I must confess that I also knew about it and already use it (frequently while going through the forum posts). I listen to programmes when I want to hear them - which is rarely at the time they are actually broadcast.
I have dialup access and only rarely have any problems with load speed but connection speed at home (Isle of Man) rarely drops below 50 kbps.
Particular comedy favourites of mine currently available are:

Great isn't it!!! It's often the small, almost obvious things that you don't know or think about. My son has just told me he's been listening to it at University for the last 6 years.
I knew you could watch TV in the Uk on your PC, with a special card in your PC and connection to an aerial, but radio just hadn't occurred to me.
Yes currently my telephone line connection makes downloading generally, and opening Forum posts, slow. I actually open 2 windows with Udonmap Forum and alternate between the two in order to try and get through reading the posts more quickly. (And yes I suppose it would help if some of them were shorter!! ). I suppose someone will now say, well if you open 2 windows each will be half the speed that one would have been!!
So my next task is to learn about GPRS/Wireless Internet connection, which Lee was telling me is a lot faster than my ordinary telephone connection. Then I can maybe have all these things open and functioning at the same time.

Thanks for explanation Arjay. The vagaries of the English language. If two brits misunderstand each other, what chance has the poor Thais got?
On the subject matter, BBC radio. A major influence in my decision to emigrate was to get away from the 2 idjuts, Wogan and Young blathering on the radio every morning.LOL Are they still alive by the way?
