weather and stuff

Post by whittler » November 17, 2005, 9:07 am

Hey whittler here, I have a couple of questions about the weather.

I have a print out of a guide to the year in Pattaya's weather.month

by month.

a)season, ie cool, hot, rainy,/ high temps / high and low season

would these be the same in Udon?

Also up till now I have gone to Pattaya, because the air is so much better

than BKK. also the humidity seems less. The reason for my concern for

the air is I have asthma, and BKK is rough on me for an extended time.

Is the air and humidity about the same as Pattaya?

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Hi whittler

In general the seasons up here are:

1) From October to February cool with winds from the North(China/Russia) so low humidity.Temperatures down to 10C.

2)March to June hot with low humidity.Temp up to 42/43C.

3)July to October wet with high humidity.

In the last couple of years the rains have stopped early around the start of October and the cool season not as cold as normal.

I have never seen anyone sucking on an inhaler up here and friends who suffer with asthma in the UK are fine here.

Marcus.

The air quality in Udon can be fairly poor in the dry season particularly when some of the farmers start burning their fields (I understand it is an illegal practice, but that's only a minor detail) and as Udon is about three hundred miles inland air pollution can be borne from any direction.

At the moment the air in Udon is as clear I have ever seen it - long term residents will probably have a more informed view of the year round air quality.

If asthma is a major problem it may be better to locate near the ocean (IMHO) where hopefully you will find prevailing onshore winds so that you would get cleaner ocean air - but best to check with someone who is expert in these matters.

Ironically after what Marcus said about inhalers, yesterday was the first time I have seen one in use in Udon :(

farmers start burning their fields
Thais as a population seem to take great pleasure in burning anything combustible. They even sweep up tiny piles of Mango leaves(very toxic) and set them on fire.

I rode my bike to Nong Khai from Udon this morning. It was bitterly cold both on the road and in the line for a visa in laos.

One has to question why John?

The buses (and train) are very cheap here !

And I never heard of a Swede arguing with a bus !

I just wanted to have a bike ride Paul. Although I dressed warmly there were not enough layers. I had intended doing a bit ot touring along the Mekong after Laos hence the bike.

It was safe enough and quite interesting but the time wasted in Laos and the cold chased me back to Udon. I had the Swede/Finn radar switched on and sidewinders on search but he did not appear.
