Does anyone know the distance from a dartboard one has to stand behind when playing darts? Usually there will be a line on the floor you have to stand behind - how far from the board is this line ? Thanks.

The centre of the board should be 5' 8", (1.72mtrs) from the ground.

The distance you stand from the face of the board should be 7' 9 and 1/4", (2.37mtrs)

The line you stand behind is called the "oche"

OK, you Brits, Ozzies and even a few Yanks who might know......what is the correct launch technique for one of these missiles? Do you throw or push a dart?

Dont'a know whether it is called "throw" or "push," but one should launch the dart (preferably titanium, thank you very much) from a point lined up to the shoulder while standing sideways.

You all forgot the most important item, the overflowing mug of beer, prefably warm, in the free hand

Should be standing about 45 degree angle to the board. You throw the dart using the fore arm (from elbow to wrist). Anyone for some cricket or 301?????. Once all 3 darts have been thrown and retrieved from the board, then you procede with the curling exercises using the container of beer.

Oh, yes...and there should be a few old fellows playing quoits in the corner, and your dog should be curled up by the fire.

Oh, so much nostalgia! The fire has long been replaced by central heating, dogs are no longer allowed in(health & safety). No one knows what Quoits is, the pool table has been in its space for donkey's years.
Glad I'm not the only old codger on here though

yea I guess not too many people remember or even knows what Quoits is......same as horses but the metal throwing devices are rings made of steel, brass or bronze....

If I see any forumites armed with sharp objects standing at the oche after 1700, you will find me well back, preferable sheltering behind a wide column. :D

Cliff, maybe quoits are different in USA but the only ones I have seen in Australia and Britian are made of rope which is about 25mm (1") in diameter.

You know how us Yanks are, we take something some what good and make it better, especially when the Brits had a hand at it......

Yea I know they were made of hemp and still are used in some places in the USA. The USQA uses steel, bronze or brass rings.
